Program objectives

The activities of private security guards involve protecting persons, property, establishments, premises and information mainly to prevent crime and maintain order. To accomplish this, they carry out preventive, surveillance, access control and traffic control duties. They ensure that laws, regulations and directives are complied with and intervene in emergencies. Private security guards work in industrial, commercial and residential establishments, institutions (hospitals, schools, etc.), for organizations, on sites, etc. They work for private security agencies or are employed directly by businesses, institutions or organizations in the private, public or parapublic sectors.

Admission conditions

To be eligible for admission to the Private Security Guarding program, candidates must meet the following requirements:
• Have earned Secondary III credits or the equivalent in language of instruction, second language and mathematics
or
hold an Attestation of Equivalence (AESS) for Secondary III studies
or
have successfully completed the General Development Test (GDT) with or without specific prerequisites
AND
• be 18 years of age or older
or
meet the eligibility requirements for Emploi-Québec’s Manpower Training measure.

Admission requirements for the TCST-STC bridge

The admission requirements for the TCST-STC bridge are identical to those that apply to the TCST-DVS bridge:
- Hold a TCST;
AND - Be at least 16 years old on September 30 of the school year in which you start vocational training;
AND - Have earned the required credits in language of instruction, second language and mathematics in Secondary Cycle 1 in general education in the youth sector or in Secondary II in adult general education.
